“I stopped learning. That was when everything started to decline.”

That was Mamasab’s honest admission during our recent conversation.

Her business grew from around RM3 million in annual sales to RM5 million, RM15 million and eventually RM170 million.

She built a powerful agent network, expanded to 25 outlets and created one of Malaysia’s most recognised homegrown bakery brands.

But rapid growth can hide weaknesses.

When the market changed after the pandemic, many agents stopped selling. The organisation, systems and leadership capabilities had not developed at the same speed as the business.

Sales declined from RM170 million to RM90 million, then RM80 million and eventually RM30 million. The company recorded losses, and some outlets had to be closed.

But this is not simply a story about decline.

It is a story about having the courage to confront reality, let go of what is no longer working and rebuild the business with stronger fundamentals.

Mamasab has already proven that she can build a business from RM3 million to RM170 million.

Now, she is learning how to rebuild it with greater wisdom, stronger systems and a deeper understanding of what sustainable growth truly requires.

One of the most dangerous moments for any entrepreneur is when success convinces us that we no longer need to learn.

Markets change. Customers change. Platforms change. People change.

The strategy that created yesterday’s success may not be enough to sustain tomorrow’s growth.

Never stop learning, especially when you are winning.
