Elon compared it to building a cathedral. The people who started it knew they would probably not live long enough to see it finished. But they built it anyway. They gave their time, their energy and their whole lives to something far bigger than themselves.
They may never have seen the final result. But because they started it, the generation after them had something to carry on.
And after almost 18 years of fighting to help and build entrepreneurs, I understand the same thing more and more.
My mission is not just to produce successful entrepreneurs myself. It is also not to keep every entrepreneur depending on me forever. This fight cannot end the day I am no longer here.
My job is to build the road. To build the knowledge and the frameworks. To build the systems and the organisation. To build the line of leaders, mentors and team members who truly understand this fight. To build a culture that keeps producing successful entrepreneurs even when I am no longer standing in front of them.
I may not live to see all these dreams come true. I may never meet every entrepreneur who ends up succeeding because of the fight we start today. But that is fine.
Because this fight is not only about me.
“Datuk Wira, you have spent almost 18 years fighting to build our entrepreneurs. But what happens if one day you are no longer here? Who will continue this fight?”
I remember a story about Elon Musk.
A young SpaceX employee once asked him, “What happens if we do not reach Mars in your lifetime?” What happens if the dream of bringing humans to Mars is not achieved while Elon is still alive?
That question made the whole room go quiet. Because almost everything SpaceX builds points to that one dream. Every rocket that blew up, every failure they went through, every sleepless night and every sacrifice made by thousands of people at SpaceX… all of it is to bring humans to Mars.
But what if Elon Musk dies before that dream becomes reality?
Elon paused before answering that his goal was never for him to reach Mars himself. His job was to build all the infrastructure needed so that the journey to Mars eventually becomes inevitable… something that will still happen even when he is gone.
The rockets, the factory, the technology, the team, the systems and the culture. All of it must be built so the mission can keep moving without Elon Musk. Because if SpaceX’s success still depends on him staying alive, then he has actually failed.
The real mission is to build something that no longer needs its Founder.
It is about the future of our entrepreneurs. It is about families whose lives will change. It is about more jobs being created. It is about more local businesses growing, becoming strong and eventually standing shoulder to shoulder with the best companies in the world.
So who will continue this fight if one day I am no longer here?
The people I have led. The people I have taught. The people who changed because of this knowledge. The team and the leaders we are building now. And every entrepreneur who believes their success is not just for themselves, but to help others succeed too.
I think every entrepreneur needs to ask themselves the same question.
Are we building a business that will eventually be buried with us when we are gone?
Or are we building a business with the team, systems, culture and leadership that let it keep living, keep growing and become bigger even without us?
Because the real success of a Founder is not when the business cannot move without him.
The real success of a Founder is when what he built keeps growing and keeps benefiting more people, long after he is gone.
